A father is being hailed as a hero after he saved the lives of countless patrons of a McDonald’s in Alabama.

The masked gunman, who has since been identified as Antonio Demond Sanders, entered the restaurant and began shooting, WBRC.com reports. An armed father, who was in the process of leaving the McDonald’s with his sons, returned fire. The father, who has not been identified, and one of his sons were struck by Sanders. Sanders eventually died of his injuries.

According to WBRC.com, “Authorities do not know at this time if Sanders was robbing the store or targeting an employee who worked there. Police indicate the father will not be facing charges at this time.”

Neither the armed father nor his son suffered life-threatening injuries.
