GPM has been following the case of lawyers Mark and Patricia McCloskey, a St. Louis couple who defended themselves, their home, and their property from looters. They had a gun seized from their home during a police search and were charged as felons by prosecutor Kim Gardner for brandishing their weapons.

Now, the Washington Examiner reports:

George Soros donated more than $100,000 to a PAC that supports St. Louis prosecutor Kim Gardner.

Soros, the prolific liberal donor, cut a check for $116,000 last month to the Missouri Justice and Public Safety PAC, which was created to support Gardner. Soros was the only donor listed on the Missouri filing.

The McCloskeys’ lawyer has since asked that Gardner be disqualified from the case because she allegedly has a personal interest in the case. KMOV4 reports:

According to Wednesday’s court filing, in one email, sent out before charges were filed, Gardner’s campaign literature read: “You might be familiar with the story of the couple who brandished guns during a peaceful protest outside of their mansion” and “…President Trump and the Governor are fighting for the two who pointed guns at peaceful citizens…” The literature contained links to donate to her re-election campaign.

The filing also states campaign literature was sent after the charges, again referencing the McCloskeys’ case and links to donate.

GPM will continue to monitor and report on this case as it develops.
