Gov. Chris Sununu (R), has once again proven to be a staunch defender of the Second Amendment by vetoing HB 687, a proposed “red flag” gun confiscation law.

This bill would have allowed a judge to order the seizure of an individual’s private property without a hearing. The Democrats, in their quest to disarm law-abiding citizens took advantage of the Wuhan virus panic to pass the bill along party lines in both chambers, thus attempting to join 19 other states in the suppression of individual freedom.

As a New Hampshire resident, I consider these rights to be sacred and applaud Gov. Sununu for defending them. As gun owners, we must remain vigilant, as this is but one small victory in the never-ending war to take away our Second Amendment rights.

It is also important to note that the New Hampshire Constitution states, “All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families and their property and state,” further reinforcing what the Founding Fathers wrote. Thankfully, there is little chance the governor’s veto will be overturned, as the Dems do not have a two-thirds majority. Firearm ownership is an important part of life here in New Hampshire, and I am grateful we have a governor who understands what “shall not be infringed” means.
