GPM reported earlier today that the U.S. House of Representatives was set to vote on two critical gun control bills today, with Nancy Pelosi leading the charge to take away your Second Amendment rights.

H.R. 8, the “The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” passed with a vote of a vote of 227-203. This bill, should it become law, will essentially create a national gun registration system. The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) tells reporters it will:

*** OUTRIGHT BAN nearly all private firearms sales — requiring every gun purchase to be pre-approved by the federal government at YOUR expense.

*** FORCE nearly all firearm purchases to be registered through the Brady-NICS registration system.

*** CRIMINALIZE law-abiding Americans who want to sell firearms to close friends and neighbors unless Big Brother approves via their registration schemes.

H.R. 1446 was also approved by the House today, with a vote of 219-210, with two Republicans voting in favor of the bill.

The so-called “Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021” “increases the amount of time, from 3 business days to a minimum of 10 business days, that a federal firearms licensee must wait to receive a completed background check prior to transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person,” according to the bill’s language.

In other words, NAGR reports, this law would “place folks on an indefinite NICS waiting list while meddling bureaucrats take their sweet time processing background checks.”

Both proposed laws are unconstitutional and dangerous.

We know, of course, that criminals, by definition, do not heed to laws when they carry out their heinous acts. The only people these laws will affect will be the law-conscious, good guys seeking to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their property.

Background checks would not have prevented most of the mass shooters in recent history from carrying out their crimes. Many of them passed a background check to obtain their weapons, because they were first-time offenders. And for criminals for whom a background check would prevent them from acquiring guns — do you really think they will attempt a background check in the first place, or be deterred if a background check prevents them from purchasing a gun legally? No. Data shows most criminals acquire their firearms illegally, and background checks don’t matter.

The only thing these liberal gun control policies will do is prevent law-abiding Americans from exercising their Second Amendment rights, thus making America a more dangerous and deadly place.
