The National Foundation for Gun Rights (NFGR), the legal arm of the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), is suing the City of San Jose over its tax on law-abiding citizens who are being punished simply for exercising their Second Amendment rights.

The San Jose City Council voted Tuesday night to force gun owners to carry liability insurance and pay an annual fee. CBS News reports that during the meeting, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo admitted:

“This won’t stop mass shootings and keep bad people from committing violent crime.”

In a message to supporters, NFGR wrote:

Make no mistake, if this “first of its kind” gun tax and other mandates are allowed to stand in San Jose, the rabid gun control lobby will export it to cities and states everywhere.

This gun ownership tax doesn’t just tax a constitutional right. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo has admitted that it’s really about giving the government a path to seize guns. Even though he admits that only law-abiding gun owners will pay the tax!

Immediately after the tax was imposed, NAGR President Dudley Brown held a press conference in San Jose, where he announced his organization has filed a lawsuit against the city.
