Two New York Police Department (NYPD) officers and a sergeant are being hailed as heroes after they immediately shot a gunman who had opened fire on a choir singing Christmas carols outside the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

CNN reports the gunman, who later died at the hospital, was in his 50s, “…had two handguns, approached the church doors, and opened fire into the air.”

The NYPD officers shot the gunman in the head, and he later died in the hospital.

A spokesman for the church said in a statement, “Thankfully, none of the attendees were hit.”

“NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea hailed the officers as heroes during a press conference Sunday,” reports CNN.

Stories like these, and countless examples of armed citizens preventing carnage, are common, though you won’t hear about them from the mainstream media. Instead, we hear of efforts to “defund the police,” seize guns from law-abiding citizens, and make innocent Americans sitting ducks for crazed killers.
