A suspect tried to rob a family outside their Memphis home in broad daylight, local police say, but a quick-thinking woman visiting the home scared the armed suspect off by firing a warning shot.

The suspect approached the home, asked the homeowner and his nephew to use a phone, then pulled a gun on the unsuspecting victims and demanded he be driven somewhere, according to reports from Fox 13.

The homeowner’s niece and her husband were visiting from Florida when the event occurred. As the robber held up the niece’s husband, the niece watched from inside. She then grabbed her uncle’s gun and went after the robber.

The family’s surveillance cameras captured footage of the homeowner’s niece chasing the suspect from their property with a loaded gun.

“Hands up! Get your hands in the air,” she shouts in the video before firing a warning shot at the suspect, who takes off running.

“She didn’t want to kill him, but when he fired back at us after she fired the warning shot, she said she was trying to hit him then, but didn’t,” one of the victims told reporters at Fox 13.

The homeowner said of his niece, “She’s bold. She ain’t scared of nothing.
“Thank the good Lord he was watching out for all of us,” he added.
