“More Americans than ever” have their concealed carry permits, reports Fox News:

In a report released this week, the Crime Prevention Research Center says there are now nearly 19 million Americans with permits to carry a concealed handgun – an increase of 1.4 million, or about 8 percent – from around this time last year.

The nonprofit, which describes itself as a “research and education organization dedicated to conducting academic quality research on the relationship between laws regulating the ownership or use of guns, crime and public safety,” said the new figure was estimated by reviewing state records.

Alabama, Indiana, and South Dakota lead the nation in highest percentage of concealed carry permits, while Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida have the highest number of permits.

Shooting Illustrated reported in May 2018 that, "The FBI’s recently released ‘Active Shooter Incidents in the United States in 2016 and 2017”’report indicates 10 percent of crimes that qualify for inclusion in the paper were stopped by a law-abiding citizen with a gun. The figure represents more than a three-fold increase from the agency’s 2000-2013 study, when the figure was 3.1 percent.”
