We reported last week that Walmart had announced it will sell guns and ammo, but will remove the items from display amid concern of “civil unrest.”

Now, however, the retail giant has announced it will be putting firearms and ammunition back on the shelves. KPLCTV reports that Walmart announced in a statement:

“After civil unrest earlier this week resulted in damage to several of our stores, consistent with actions we took over the summer, we asked stores to move firearms and ammunition from the sales floor to a secure location in the back of the store in an abundance of caution. As the current incidents have remained geographically isolated, we have made the decision to begin returning these products to the sales floor today.”

Walmart is making a wise financial move by putting tools of self-defense on display for customers. As GPM has reported repeatedly, Americans – many of them first-time buyers – have broken gun sale records over and over. The latest numbers show nearly 17 million guns sold in the U.S. so far this year.

And it’s not just “gun nuts” who are stocking up amidst these uncertain times.

“This time, the sales appear to be driven by fears of societal instability, and gun shop owners and trade groups say the customer base is much broader, including large numbers of Black Americans, women and people who identify as politically liberal,” reports the LA Times.

Turns out, guns protects everyone, regardless of political beliefs, sex, race, or creed.
